Short-term price surge ahead of bearish outlook: Iron Ore Market Analysis

The buoyant prices which resisted the price drops we had expected in Q4 last year were supported by a recovery in real demand.

Yet another cyclone alert affected market sentiment and sent prices higher at the start of this week. The Australian Bureau of Meteorology had warned of Cyclone Blake potentially striking Port Hedland last week, but the port was taken off the watchlist last week and the concerns faded. This week, it is Cyclone Claudia which is spreading worry about the port at Dampier which has been placed under alert.
