After tightening through November, scrap fundamentals in Asia are unravelling once more: Scrap Highlights


Data for November reveals there was a seasonal correction in bar exports out of China to just under 325,000 tonnes, down from an upwardly revised total of close to 446,000 tonnes in October.

The start of China’s winter season, back in November 2019, would appear not to have negatively affected Chinese steel production as we had expected. But while rebar production surprisingly broke new records last November, in exceeding 22.4 million tonnes (Mt) for the first time according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), exports, arguably more important to the Asian scrap outlook, fell.
