Mexico becomes the second largest slab supplier to the US: Mexico and Canada Highlights


According to the license data from the US Department of Commerce, in September US semi-finished steel imports from Mexico more than doubled on a monthly basis, reaching 238,877 tonnes.

As we discussed in our previous issues, the removal of Section 232 tariffs from Canada and Mexico has led to a rise of steel exports to the US, with a particularly visible increase in shipments of semi-finished steel (predominantly slab).

According to the license data from the US Department of Commerce, in September US semi-finished steel imports from Mexico more than doubled on a monthly basis, reaching 238,877 tonnes. For the January-September period, US imports of semis from Mexico rose by 29.0%, totaling 1.08 million tonnes.
