Prices stable but upside potential increases: European Market Highlights


While Europe’s, and indeed the world’s leading steelmaker, ArcelorMittal, has announced a second price increase of €30/tonne on its flat products in recent weeks, large discounts remain available.

As we expected may be the case in last month’s tracker, European steel prices appear to have bottomed out at last. But, unlike their counterparts in other regions of the world, Europe’s steelmakers continue to struggle in their bid to raise prices.

As such, prices of coated steels in the region remain much the same as they were during mid-February. Hot-dipped galvanized material (HDG) is currently priced at an average of €595/tonne, unchanged over the past few weeks (coil, ex-works basis, coating extras excluded).
