Weather, supply disruptions weigh heavy on capesize freight markets: Freight Highlights


Activity in Western Australian ports was reduced over fears about cyclone Riley hitting coastal areas.

Freight prices for capesize ships fell in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins in the last week of January following the disruptions to iron ore supply in Brazil. The Atlantic index recorded by Simpson Spence Young (SSY) fell 7.6% week on week to 6,998 points, while SSY’s Pacific index dropped 8.7% to 4,422 points.
