Time for a breather after a decent rally, with prices almost back at $12,000 per tonne: Nickel Highlights

Fundamentally, the latest indications from China are that NPI production totalled between 470,000 tonnes and 474,000 tonnes in 2018.

Nickel prices had a good run last week and even looked to be gearing up to have a go at $12,000 per tonne. But they became technically overboard and hit resistance too, so are having a break to consolidate now. This is happening at quite an elevated level around $11,700 per tonne, which bodes well and indicates there is decent dip-buying appetite. Some reports suggest this buying is coming from China as consumers there secure tonnages ahead of the Lunar New Year starting in early February. If this is the case,...
