Production cuts to lend support to prices in late Q1 2019: Silicon Metal Highlights


Despite the quiet market, Chinese suppliers have held their offer prices because silicon metal supply has been tight in Southern China.

The imminent Chinese New Year holiday in early February is dampening demand for grade 553 silicon, with Chinese prices little moved so far in 2019 amid slow demand and few deals completed. Chinese silicon metal export fob prices are at $1,550-1,610 per tonne fob.

Despite the quiet market, Chinese suppliers have held their offer prices because silicon metal supply has been tight in Southern China. Producers in the area typically cut production in the dry season when tighter hydro-electricity availability pushes up energy...
