Economic worries weigh on steel demand: Mexico and Canada Highlights


The automotive industry is facing challenging conditions, and it was reported that Nissan, the top-selling carmaker in Mexico, is planning to lay off 1,000 of employees out of 17,000 total workforce.

Steel demand in Mexico has been affected by a slowdown of the economy, with the manufacturing PMI indicator sliding into contraction at the end of the year, remaining at 49.7 points in November and December. IHS Markit, publisher of the indicator, commented on the decline of the production sub-index due to subdued demand, while business sentiment in Mexico dipped to the lowest level since at least 2012.
