Asian markets maintain upward pressure: Global Tinplate Market Highlights


China's Baosteel to introduce its third price increase in June.

Mills in Asia continue to press forward with price increases, while European tinplate producers hesitate in the face of static and potentially lower prices across flat steel products. The market remains very tight, and can only come under greater pressure as the northern summer approaches, and with it the annual surge in tinplate demand from the horticultural sector.

As in recent months, all eyes are on China’s Baoshan Iron and Steel (Baosteel), which is introducing its third price increase in June. Tinplate remains the only Baosteel product that has seen price rises in successive months, beginning with a rise of Rmb500/tonne ($77/tonne) in April, and followed by rises of Rmb300/tonne ($46/tonne) in May and June.
