September 2020 | North American Steels

Fastmarkets’ research team has made some improvements to its North American Steel Market Tracker

As with recent reworkings of our Ferro-Alloys Market and Steel Trackers, we want to emphasize our forecasts - our rationale for them and, when we change them, our reasons for doing so - as well as our authoritative analysis. You place a high value on our expertly written commentary that examines how key fundamental and market developments affect our views about future trends, which is why we are putting it front and center. To bring these elements to the fore, we have made the following changes: • Pivoting our writing to an analysis-first approach that will more clearly marry our data with our commentary • Adding a new price forecast accuracy section to analyze our performance • Moving our price forecasting to a new timetable that will align to the timetable across all of our prices in the Trackers. We will also add a further year forward to our forecasts. • Adapting our raw materials section to focus more fully on margin analysis, while incorporating our raw materials analysis into our flats and longs product market coverage as applicable. More in-depth coverage is available in our Steelmaking Raw Materials Tracker. • Incorporating our economic analysis more fully into our flats and longs product market analysis to more closely reflect key indicators for each market • In recognition of the interconnected nature of American steel markets, we are also adding key Brazilian steel and economic data into a new Regional data focus section. The net result is an easier-to-use, forecast-centric and analysis-rich Tracker with added depth and focus on the North American steel markets. Please contact editor Amy Bennett ( for more details of these changes if required.
