Cyclone fears halts iron ore price downturn: Iron Ore Market Analysis

Weakened demand has paused, if not halted, the price rise we usually see at this time in February.

The decrease in demand as a result of the coronavirus has so far dragged prices lower for three consecutive weeks. Fastmarkets MB’s iron ore index for 62% Fe fines dropped 5.9% week on week and averaged $82.44 per tonne on the week ending February 7. The continued lull in the steel market has raised questions about the expected uptick in market activity, with a bearish mood still looming over the market as the contagion has yet to be fully controlled.
