CAAM data shows China's car sales fell 18% y-o-y in January 2020
According to the latest data published by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), total automobile sales in China amounted to 1.94 million units in January 2020, down 18% year on year and 27% month on month. Total sales of passenger cars and new energy vehicles were 1.61 million units and 44,000 units in January, down 20.2% y-o-y and 54.4% y-o-y respectively.

We believe the main reason behind the car sales slump on a year on year basis was the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday as this year the holiday was in January while in last year it was in February, resulting in five working days fewer this January than January 2019.
