South America regional data focus: 10 February 2020

Domestic flat steel prices in Brazil remained stable in January (assessed by Fastmarkets MB early in the month), but in the midlle of January producers announced price hikes.

Supply/Demand Fundamentals: Steel production in Brazil declined across all product categories in December: flat and long steel output was down by 16.6% and 10.1% year on year respectively, while semi-finished production fell by 2.5%. For the year as a whole, the sharpest drop was seen in the slab production, which totalled 7.75 million tonnes, an 11.5% fall from 2018.
