Tulachermet marginally increases 2019 MPI sales despite its steel operations' launch: CIS Market Analysis

As our first chart alongside illustrates, Tulachermet tends to adjust production volumes, depending on the pricing environment.

The biggest producer of merchant pig iron (MPI) in the CIS region, Tulachermet, increased its pig iron production and sales by 1% in 2019. This was a slowdown from 3% growth in 2018 and 2017 and 7% in 2016. However, throughout the last year there were reports of some short-term production cuts as Tula Steel was coming on stream (production started in September 2018, but through 2019 the mill was not yet operating at full capacity).
