Carbon Products: Chinese CPC export prices have fallen sharply over the past few months

In 2018, Bahrain imported 547.8kt of green coke. In total 226kt was sourced from China, a further 195kt from Kuwait, and the remainder from Brazil, Russia and Spain.

Calcined coke in the Middle East Smelters located in the GCC are now operating at a rate of 5.9m tpy of primary aluminium output, which requires in the order of 2.3m tpy of calcined coke. This is up from 2.7mtpy in 2011, with demand for 1.1m tpy of calcined coke. With Alba’s 500ktpy calciner and the Kuwaiti CPIC’s 350ktpy plant, the only such operations in the region at the beginning of the last decade, new smelting capacity set up in the region in recent years has been entirely reliant on imports of calcined petroleum coke...
