European alloy prices find a floor, as do manganese ore prices, but further gains likely to be limited: Manganese Highlights

Spot silico-manganese prices in China rose after alloy smelters increased offer prices due to resumed buying interest from both mills and traders, as well as amid rising ore prices.

Seaborne 37% and 44% manganese ore prices increased in early December after suppliers offered only limited volumes of material for January delivery. Many Chinese alloy smelters have sought to build stock positions in seaborne cargoes, worrying about missing out on comparatively low ore prices. Concerns that miners will cut production in 2020 have encouraged traders and alloy plants to accept higher-than-expected ore prices for semi-carbonate material.
