China and Europe enjoy pricing gains, with momentum likely to continue into Q1 2020: Silicon Metal Highlights

Firm domestic prices are underpinning export prices, with the export price for silicon metal above 1,500 yuan per tonne since November, with deals reached at 1,520 yuan per tonne in recent weeks.

The Chinese silicon 5-5-3 export price is rising despite quiet trading due to tight domestic supply caused by seasonal production suspensions in the Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, as well as low operating rates at smelters in Xinjiang province. Most silicon plants in Yunnan and Sichuan have halted production due to high electricity prices during the dry season. And the operating rate in Xinjiang has been at a low rate because plants in the province lack raw materials and face limited power supplies.
