Chinese and European prices post gains, with potential for more to come: Silicon Metal Highlights

Grade 4-4-1 and grade 5-5-3 silicon prices in Europe have increased for the first time since March 2019.

Domestic Chinese silicon metal prices have increased by around 200 yuan ($29) per tonne this month, supporting an increase in the export price. The domestic market has increased given supply tightness in southern China, while most, if not all, refineries in Sichuan have halted operations due to increasing electricity costs amid the dry season. Some refiners in Yunnan province have already cut production. Chinese silicon metal export prices have gained to $1,450-1,500 per tonne, up from $1,370-1,420 per tonne last month.
