China continues to boost metallics and semis imports but the trend may be short-lived: Iron Metallics Market Analysis

Combined imports of slab and billet into China, on a monthly basis, hit a record high level in 10 years in September.

As our first chart alongside illustrates, the latest data from Chinese customs has revealed that in September China imported the highest volumes of iron metallics and semi-finished steel in a decade. This included 98,156 tonnes of merchant pig iron (MPI), 194,294 tonnes of hot-briquetted iron (HBI) and 317,201 tonnes of semi-finished steel.
