This comes as weaker investor sentiment across Europe continues to trickle through to commodity purchasing, with US President Donald Trump threatening to apply $11 billion worth of tariffs on goods from the European Union. Alumina prices dropped below $390 per tonne The drop in the alumina price below $390 per tonne has also added to downward pressure on aluminium prices. The drop is due to the sudden arrival of surplus cargoes into the market, and the fact that Norsk Hydro is a step closer to resuming normal operations at its Alunorte alumina refinery after the company and the Brazilian federal prosecutors’ office (MPF) decided to file a joint petition to remove the restrictions on production at the site.
