US stainless steel buyers cautious amid falling surcharges, uncertainty on trade: American Highlights
For December, surcharges for grade 304 stainless are falling on average by 5.6% month on month to $0.6218/lb.
December surcharges mixed
Novembers decline in US austenitic stainless steel grades surcharges and transaction pricing is to escalate in December and could possibly continue into January on the back of falling nickel costs, which over the past month have fallen some 7% and could yet move further downward. By contrast, ferritic grade prices are moving slightly upwards in December given a 2.5% rise in iron costs. The direction that both austenitic and ferritic surcharges will take in January will also depend upon where the chrome benchmark prices settles, which is still uncertain although increasingly looking as though it will settle down (see Chrome & Molybdenum highlights for more details).
