Most US stainless prices to remain flat in August: American Highlights
Any August base price increases are being offset by broad declines in alloy surcharges for austenitic stainless steel grades with nickel prices falling 5.8% over the past month.
US stainless base prices continue upwards
Helped by a combination of steady end-use demand and reduced import levels, US stainless steel base prices have continued to move upwards this month. This comes even as major US mills didnt officially follow North American Stainless July 1 cold-rolled 200-, 300- and 400-series base price increase. Still, it appears that most of that increase has gone through, especially for the ferritic grades, which could see supply tighten given that much of Outokumpus ferritic stainless is produced at its Mexinox plant and, therefore, is subject to Section 232 tariffs.
Several stainless long product mills, including Crucible Industries and Electralloy, announced 3-8% base price increases, also for July.
