Rusal restarts Friguia alumina refinery in Guinea: Alumina & Bauxite Analysis
Bauxite supplies in the Shanxi province of China remain tight following the government crackdown on illegal mining, and bauxite prices have risen as a result.
Rusal restarts Friguia alumina refinery in Guinea UC Rusal has restarted its Friguia alumina refinery in Guinea more than six years after production was halted, the company confirmed in late June. Friguia has an annual nameplate capacity of 650,000 tonnes of alumina and 2.1 million tonnes of bauxite. Rusal reached agreements with the Republic of Guinea, which allow for a ramp up in production up to 550,000-600,000 tonnes of alumina per year. Alumina produced at Friguia is expected to be captive to Rusals requirements at first, with the first shipment understood to be leaving Guinea in late July or early August.
