Quotes underpinned by firm steelmaker margins: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis


Concerns are now beginning to build of a slowdown in steel output, stoking caution in the coking market of a potential snap-back in consumption.

Prices come under pressure amid waning trading volumes. Transactions in the Chinese spot market thinned over the week. Low demand from steelmakers after record steel output volumes during the first ten day of May worked to depress sentiment among market participants. Optimism had been increasing on tightening steel market fundamentals, but derailed after concerns regarding new steel orders. On a week-on-week basis, Metal Bulletin’s fob DBCT hard and premium coking coal indexes were unchanged at $173.60...
