US stainless prices move up further, helped by Section 232 tariffs: American Highlights


The Trump administration has delayed imposing tariffs upon steel imports – including stainless steel – from certain countries and/or regions.

Uncertainty about Section 232 tariffs puts US stainless market on edge
Nearly a month after President Trump’s proclamation, the Section 232 tariffs still have the US stainless steel market on edge. This is especially the case for companies that had been importing a lot of steel as they are still scrambling to firm up their supply chain, which isn’t all that easy to do given that there is still a lot of uncertainty about which countries and/or products will be exempt from the 25% tariff that Trump has imposed upon imported steel. In fact, there is speculation that there might not be further clarity for 90 days or so.
