Prices up but competitive pressures increasing: Latest Analysis


When discounting the impact of rising alloy costs, it would appear as though stainless steelmakers, in Asia and Europe in particular, are coming under greater competitive pressure.

As Q1 comes to an end next month, stainless steel prices are set to increase further as stainless steelmakers around the globe pass on increased alloy costs. Both chrome and nickel prices have continued to head up in recent weeks and, with ferrochrome contract prices almost certain to head up with the beginning of Q2, we can probably expect stainless steel prices to increase further.
