Demand Analysis

Late last week the US ITC has confirmed that US producers of common alloy sheet (non-beverage can) have suffered injury as a result of unfairly traded imports from China over many years. In effect this allows the AD/CV investigation to be passed onto to Department of Commerce for further investigation. Preliminary decisions in countervailing and anti-dumping are expected by February 1st and April 17th respectively, with margins of 56.54-59.72% likely to be applied. .

What might this mean for US sheet consumption?

While US aluminium producers were unanimously in favour of the investigation, many consumers take a very different view point. The county has been increasingly reliant on Chinese sourced sheet in recent years.
