Festive period and extreme weather put brakes on much of the sector: Americas Market Analysis - Extrusions


While demand faces a temporary logistics bottleneck, more deep rooted concerns are focussed on the ongoing threat of import tariffs being applied to primary aluminium under the Section 232 investigation.

It is fairly standard procedure for US extrusion factories to take a little downtime over the festive period, in all but the strongest of years. But as we run into early 2018, it looks as through this may run a little longer in many parts of the country which have been hit by record temperatures lows. Transportation systems have come to a grinding halt, slowing down the whole supply chain, with a backlog likely to run on over the next couple of weeks.
