Prices hit highest level since May 2014: European Market Highlights
Although we highlighted last month the fact that prices in southern Europe were climbing most sharply, on the back of lower import competition there, this month has seen prices jump almost in tandem across Europe.
There has been no relief for Europes coated steel consumers this month, with hot-dipped galvanized prices (HDG) once again jumping sharply. Following last months increases of some 40/tonne, this month has seen average HDG prices in the region jump by a further 60-65/tonne, and they now stand at around 520/tonne, their highest level in almost two years.
Although we highlighted last month the fact that prices in southern Europe were climbing most sharply, on the back of lower import competition there, this month has seen prices jump almost in tandem across Europe. Prices in markets such as Italy, France, and Germany have all increased by a similar amount this month.
