Post-summer bounce absent once again: European Market Highlights


The past few weeks have seen some stability at lower levels of pricing, with hot-dipped galvanized material (HDG) in the EU being priced at an average of around €425/tonne at present, some €35/tonne lower than just three months ago.

With the end of 2015 now approaching, it is clear that any opportunity for a post-summer bounce in European steel pricing has just about passed. Despite a brief uptick in raw material prices through late July and August, buyers had to suffer stable pricing at worst before the persistent downward trend in pricing resumed in September.

The past few weeks have seen some stability at these new, lower levels of pricing, with hot-dipped galvanized material (HDG) in the EU being priced at an average of around €425/tonne at present, some €35/tonne lower than just three months ago. Back then, we highlighted the impact that cheap imports of substrate (hot-rolled/cold-rolled coil) would have on the market, as well as China’s devaluation of the yuan.
