Prices inch up in the EU: European Market Highlights

In the UK, MBR understands that HDG prices remain at summer levels, of some £445/tonne including extras (€567/tonne), while in Turkey, HDG prices (on thinner 0.5mm gauge material) remain at just above $780/tonne (around €620/tonne).

The fourth quarter of the year has begun with moderate cause for cheer for Europe’s producers of coated steels. Metal Bulletin Research (MBR) understands that small price increases have been pushed through since last month, although as of writing these are not to the extent that some producers were hoping for.

At present therefore, average prices of hot-dipped galvanized material (HDG) are at levels of just above €500/tonne in the eurozone (excluding typical extras of some €80-100/tonne), some €5/tonne higher than seen during mid-September. Behind this average as ever remains some variation, with base prices down toward €460/tonne in the Italian market, and those elsewhere rising up toward €530/tonne e.g. in Germany.
