Prices hold as producers look for post-summer increases: European Market Highlights
Talk has increased of late about rising zinc costs, which have indeed risen by some 12% since the beginning of 2014.
With Europes steel market now in the early stages of its post-summer return to normality, the regions coated steel producers are inevitably talking up price increases on the back of the restocking that typically takes place at this time of year. In each of the past four years there has been a price rally of some sort for galvanized steel products during the late months of the year although, rather ominously, any gains were almost immediately given up, with the longer-term downward trend in prices always reasserting itself.
This year is no different, with producers looking to push through price increases of some 10-20/tonne on galvanized steel products as of writing. Indeed, producers have been looking to push through such increases for much of the past 12 months, with little success.
