European prices firming: Ferro-silicon Highlights
Norwegian ferro-silicon production will not be returning to full capacity with Fesil’s Rana Metall restart.
European spot market ferro-silicon prices have increased on the top end of the trading range over the past month, climbing to 1,050-1,100/tonne ($1,440-1,508/tonne) delivered from 1,050-1,070/tonne in September. Increased enquiries from steel mills helped to propel prices higher, with increased purchasing attributed to both improved underlying demand and restocking of depleted inventories. We understand, however, that the recent flurry of purchasing activity may have filled consumers needs for the rest of the year. If this is the case, there will be little activity in the market until late November/early December when consumers begin their purchasing for the first quarter of 2014.
Meanwhile in Norway, Fesil is restarting its idled furnace...
