Prices continue to fall across variety of products: European Market Highlights
The automotive sector is key for Europe’s coated steels sector, with some 50-60% of the region’s HDG heading there.
Since the start of March, it seems as though every passing week has brought with it a further 5/tonne price cut for coated steels in Europe. This has been the case again this month, with base prices for hot-dipped galvanized (HDG) falling by an average of 20/tonne across Europe since the middle of May to levels of 500/tonne in southern European markets and just shy of 550/tonne in northern Europe. Prices in Turkey have also come under pressure, with 0.5mm HDG falling by about $30/tonne since last month to $795/tonne (594/tonne). One relatively bright spot is in the pre-painted steel (PPGI) market, with prices for 0.5mm material in Turkey slipping by only $10/tonne since mid-May to $925/tonne (691/tonne). The construction market, to which this product is more heavily exposed, has held up relatively well in Turkey and other markets nearby such as Russia....
