Tinplate start to rise sharply in east Asia: Global Tinplate Market Highlights
Spot market price variations in January and March have meant that integrated tinplate mills in Japan and Europe will have to pay 47% more.
MBR said last month that tinplate prices would not remain subdued for long, and that has very much been the case this month. We have seen this scenario happen before: rising raw material prices push up the price of carbon steel flat products; mills prefer to dedicate their crude steel output to products that are easier to make than tinplate and carry better margins; and there is a resulting supply squeeze on tinplate.
