The price hike announcements keep on coming: American Market Highlights

US mills announce another round of price increases led by AK Steel.

Just when the market thought the HDG, and other flat-rolled steel, pricing hikes might have lost some of its upward momentum, US mills announce another round of price increases led by AK Steel, who upped prices $50/s.ton. That increase was shortly followed by Severstal North America and, to a slightly lesser extent, Nucor, who only raised its prices by $30/s.ton. These price increases appear to be holding just about in their entirety with potential room for maybe one more price increase.

These price hikes were helped by certain production problems at several US mills including ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Nucor Decatur and US Steel Fairless. While many of the production problems are now behind the mills, some lead times for galvanised, are very extended, although it varies widely mill by mill. One source says that...
