Yet another attempt to hike galvanised prices: American Market Highlights

Even though the price hike announced toward the end of January has been met with resistance, AK Steel is attempteing to raise the bar even higher.

It had been widely believed that the $40-50/long ton price increase spearheaded by AK Steel and followed by Nucor, Severstal North America and other North American flat-rolled steelmakers toward the end of January would be the last one for a while, but that proved not to the case. On 10 February AK Steel announced yet another $50/long ton price increase. Industry sources, however, are unsure whether this price hike – or even the one that preceded it - will stick, especially given a general disparity in actual pricing being paid in the marketplace. While the mills, at least thus far, have not been budging on pricing, some service centres are discounting prices to their customers.
