Turkish mills buoyed by firming demand: European Highlights

Egypt remains attractive to exporters

The main driver behind the demand pickup in Europe appears to be the construction industry as we are now in peak building season. Even though construction activity compared to last year is pretty quiet there are still projects in Turkey which have been showing renewed demand for galvanised coil over the past month.

Throughout April and May we have seen prices moving up in Turkey as purchasing picks up and stocks at steel mills have stayed low. The biggest price increase has been for thinner gauge coil and we have been told that a $50/tonne premium is being demanded for HDG with a thickness less than 0.45mm.

We understand that Erdemir has been offering HDG coil price for $530-550/tonne and thicker gauge is being offered at $500-505/tonne. Import offers into Turkey have been made at $550/tonne cfr but this is receiving few enquiries because of the 15% import...
