Prices continue to slide: European Market Highlights

Prices approaching mills’ operating costs

Import offers for HDG from the CIS and India have been falling in recent weeks, placing even greater pressure on producers.

Recent prices for HDG from the CIS and India have been in the range of €440-500/tonne ($585-665/tonne) cfr, down from previous offers of €460-500/tonne ($612-665/tonne) from India and €480-500/tonne ($638-665/tonne) from the CIS. Import offers to Italy from India are at the lower end of the range at €460/tonne ($612/tonne).

Domestic prices have responded to the lower import offers. While official prices for domestic HDG have remained at around €500-560/tonne ($665-744/tonne), reported offers have been much lower across the region of €450-500/tonne ($598-665/tonne). MBR understands that some offers have been reported outside of this range, with one quote coming from Germany at €430/tonne ($571/tonne) ex-stock.
