West European mill prices drop to €500/tonne: European market highlights


The slow start for the coated steel market in 2009 has continued through February, forcing further price cuts for HDG.

The slow start for the coated steel market in 2009 has continued through February, forcing further price cuts for HDG. Regional prices for 1mm-thick HDG (with CR coil as substrate, Z140 coating) are around €500–510/tonne ex-mill. Galvanized HRC is being offered for around €440/tonne. However, buyers remain elusive as demand for end-use products has plummeted since late 2008.

Furthermore, MBR understands that some producers, in India for example, have all but given up on exporting HDG to the European market.
