The rise in nickel, ferro-chrome and ferro-molybdenum over the turn of the year and sustained into January have led transaction prices to rise by virtue of an increase in the respective surcharges of European and US mills.

Consumption has continued to retreat in Asia. In Europe and the USA, inventories continue to need restocking at present. We expect this requirement to continue until the end of the year, despite the falling surcharges in Europe this month and the USA next month disrupting buying patterns.

Asian mills have continued to increase capacity utilisation levels this month in response to rising prices in recent months.
