  • Stainless steelmakers adequately stocked with ferro-alloys

    We are seeing some weakening in specialty ferro-alloy prices, with prices sliding in response to softer demand from stainless steelmakers. Stainless mills appear adequately stocked with raw materials, and in response, are reducing their new raw material purchases. We have noted downward pressure on both molybdenum and chrome prices over the past week.

    Ferro-alloy market momentum has slowed with the onset of the Chinese New Year holiday celebrations. Prices are generally holding steady as the market awaits the return of Chinese buyers and sellers. A notable exception, however, is the molybdenum market, which remains active and is seeing upward momentum in prices continue.
