Domestic US mills note higher scrap and raw materials prices are prompting higher prices although these have yet to appear in the Fastmarkets price assessments.

Prices fall at start of year amid optimism
Through January, seamless OCTG prices are down about $10-20/tonne from December levels as a result of an overhang of weak fundamentals feeding into the new year. Seamless linepipe prices were unchanged for the month.

Domestic US mills note higher scrap and raw materials prices are prompting higher prices although these have yet to appear in the Fastmarkets price assessments. Producers also an uptick in their order books for the first quarter over the previous quarter, which is leading to a rise in optimism for a stronger year than 2019.

Inventories receded in Q4, but was it enough?

Distributor inventories of OCTG are understood to be at lower levels at the start of the year than at the start of the fourth quarter of 2019 as a result of the reduced buying and the seasonal destocking efforts. This will support better pricing...
