Seasonally tighter supply lends limited support to near-term pricing: Ferro-silicon Highlights


Fastmarkets’ latest assessment for ferro-silicon 75% Si min export, fob China was $1,110-1,140 per tonne, up by only $10 per tonne in January.

China’s ferro-silicon export business continues to be challenged due to intensifying competition in international markets. In the first eleven months of 2019, Chinese ferro-silicon exports plunged 39% year on year amid strong competition from Russian and Malaysian suppliers. China exported 329,311 tonnes of ferro-silicon in January-November 2019, down from the 540,892 tonnes shipped in the same period of 2018. Russian and Malaysian exporters have significantly increased their presence in ferro-silicon export markets with aggressively-priced material, cutting Chinese market share. ...
