Short-term pricing appears firm: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis

Contract supply could tighten out of the Bowen Basin, Australia, if miners are pressed to declare force majeure following the disruption caused by the bushfire season.

Despite cooler spot market activity last week, prices have risen. Coking coal prices have either ended the week higher or held their ground, ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday (January 24-30). Australian hard coking coal climbed higher by 2.2% to $125.01 per tonne FOB Australia, while premium low-vol coking grades leapt by 8.5%, to trade at $155.26 per tonne FOB Australia.
