Long product prices fall further but are likely at or close to the bottom: US Long Product Highlights


The American Institute of Architects’ architecture billings index remained in negative territory for the second consecutive month at 49.7 points for September, indicating a contraction of nonresidential construction activity.

While US long product prices were down almost universally over the past month, Fastmarkets AMM research believes that they are finally at, or at least very close to, the bottom. We forecast a slight pickup in prices across the board, although any significant increases might be difficult to impose before early next year given that this is the time of the year when construction activity traditionally tapers off and when service centers tend to work down their inventories.
