European and US prices struggle against weak demand and ample supply: Silicon Metal Highlights

Most silicon metal refiners in China are planning production cuts or complete shutdowns due to a shortage of cheap hydro-electric power in the dry season.

Chinese silicon metal export prices have slipped after rising last month, retreating to $1,370-1,420 per tonne, down from $1,420-1,450 per tonne previously. The strength in the domestic market has persisted in China, with small increases of around 100-200 yuan ($14-28) per tonne in the month in both the southern and northern Chinese markets because of expected supply tightness in the upcoming dry season starting in November. But dealers are cautious about taking a position given muted demand in the international market due to weakness in the secondary aluminium sector. ...
