Prices set to turn as supply cuts mount: Chrome/Molybdenum Highlights


Ferrochrome smelters likewise now appear to be facing rising costs for chrome ore, and have long faced rising costs for reductants as well. Rising prices for electricity (in the case of South African smelters) and, recently, freight have also added to the cost pressures.

With rising costs and stubbornly-stable prices for finished products, the chrome industry is looking ever more like the steel industry. There, many steelmakers have faced rising costs for iron ore and reductants over the past year but have been unsuccessful in passing these on to consumers in the form of higher prices for finished steel.
