The pace of price decline slows down but the market is to remain under pressure: Coking Coal and Coke Market Analysis


Disruptions to trade flows between Australia and China, in particular delays in custom clearance earlier in the year, as well as wet weather in Australia, have affected the relationship between prices and output this year.

Metallurgical coal prices continued to decline across the board last week, although at a slower pace. Fastmarkets’ daily indices averaged $1.03 to $3.70 lower week on week, depending on the grade and incoterms, in the week ended Friday August 16. The biggest price drop was observed in the cfr Jingtang hard coking coal (HCC) index, after the price posted the smallest drop a week prior.
