LME weekly average cash price down 1.5% week-on-week: Market Summary and Analysis


According to the latest data from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI), global aluminium production totalled 5.246 million tonnes in June 2019, or 174,900 tonnes per day, slightly up from 174,400 tpd in May and down 1.6% from the same time period in 2018.

LME weekly average cash price down 1.5% week-on-week
LME aluminium had a poor performance last week as the average cash price was down 1.5% to $1,794.4 per tonne from the previous week's $1,821.5 per tonne. Global risk sentiment was borderline negative last week following confirmed reports that both Iran and North Korea have fired ballistic missiles. Meanwhile, US-China trade tensions have started to cool but heated exchanges between Japan and South Korea reached new heights following a report last Friday that Japan is threatening to remove South Korea from its "white list" as early as this week, which could further hamper trade relations between the two countries. Countries included on the “white list” can trade with Japan with minimal restrictions.
